In Loving Memory of Chong Chong

Chong Chong came into my life in April 2017. A bunch of friends and I just came back from climbing and she was just right outside the house. We gave her some food and belly rubs and she never left since then.

For the past 8.5 years, she played her role as The Bivy Dog – welcoming guests with her gentle disposition while guarding the house with her occasional ritual barks.

She was a great crag dog. She carried her own water, food and sometimes trash I picked up at the crags in her saddlebag.

When I took the trash out of her bag, she looked like a proud girl guide waiting to be badged.

On multiple occasions, guests asked if Chong Chong could be on the trips.

Someone once told me, “Kelly, I know we have all these climbing plans. And Chong Chong is coming with us, right?”.

Right.

Chong Chong is my family and soul buddy. She loved and trusted wholeheartedly despite the hostility she had met.

She kept me grounded through the darkest moments of my life. She led me to so many beautiful places I would not have gone if not for her walks.

On 26 December 2025, Chong Chong met a road accident and crossed the rainbow bridge.

Thank you for being in my life, my dear Chong Chong. I miss you and will always love you.

Forever The Bivy Dog.

Love,
Kelly 🖤
